A Note About Golfing Terms

golfing termsI'm always trying to get new friends to go golfing with me and a lot of them have never golfed. I forget that they may not know the golfing terms I use to describe situations. I discover the funniest looks when I take a new girlfriend golfing and they stare at me because they don't understand what I asked them to do. I find the easiest way (for me) to teach someone is to tell them to look it up in a dictionary, but a golf dictionary is even better. You can find a pretty complete one at abc-of-golf (.com) under 'golf-dictionary'.

Popular Golfing Terms

golfing terms
So you think you know golf huh? Then you must know of these terms right?

Birdie, eagle, par, bogeys, draw, fade, hook, slice, pilot, shank, chip shot, low runner, high soft, and gimmie are all popular golfing terms. They may not sound very common to the average person, but to an experienced golfer, they are all part of THE lingo.

A birdie is when you make it in the hole one less than par. Furthermore, Par is when you make it in the amount of strokes technically allowed. A bogey is anything less than par, and a draw is when you naturally hit the ball to the left, whereas a fade is when you hit it naturally to the right.

If you’ve kept up this far then you probably know your stuff. If you’re a little lost; keep working on it!
